The Jesse White Tumbling Team embodies the message "Overcoming Obstacles in our way fly Like an eagle," using acrobatics to help inner-city youth rise above their challenges. Founded in Chicago in 1959 by former Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, the program provides a positive alternative to negative influences like drugs and gangs. 

Overcoming obstacles through discipline

The team's success is founded on a strict code of conduct that instills discipline and accountability in its members:

• Education is a requirement: All tumblers must maintain a minimum "C" grade average in school. Those who fall behind are required to attend the Jesse White Tutoring Program or prove they are enrolled elsewhere.
• Zero-tolerance policy: Members must stay away from drugs, alcohol, and gangs. This rule provides a safe and structured environment, steering thousands of young people away from a path of juvenile delinquency.
• Commitment and teamwork: The program teaches valuable life skills like teamwork, perseverance, and dedication. Tumblers must attend practices and follow the rules, learning that success requires hard work and self-discipline. 

Achieving success through community and opportunity

By providing a supportive community and opening up new opportunities, the team helps its members reach their full potential:

• Positive mentorship: The team is built on the philosophy of giving back to the community. Jesse White has always emphasized that "when you go through this world and become successful, you should give something back". Many former tumblers return as coaches and mentors, ensuring the program's values are passed down through generations.
• Educational support: The organization assists students with homework, offers college scholarships, and provides college readiness programs, including sending trunks filled with supplies to graduating seniors.
• Global exposure: The tumblers perform at major sporting events, parades, and charity functions both domestically and internationally. These trips to places like Tokyo, China, and Israel give many young people their first opportunity to travel the world.
