Me & Mrs. Jones
Some people say that the things that tend to make us fondly remember,
Are a familiar fragrance or the sound of a voice with it's inflection and timbre.
I must say that I wholeheartedly agree that it most definitely
must be in the vibrato family of tones,
Because I can feel it each time that I hear Billy Paul's 1973
monster slow jam and a favorite on the Stepper's Set
'Me & Mrs. Jones!'You see because it conjures up memories
of good old fashioned Heavy jade green drinking glasses
with matching coasters
Plush green wall to wall sofasA green refrigerator
A green house phone Green everything
Because well...we lived in Da Greens!
A green and white
flowered kitchen table with green place settings,Hanging
mustard yellow colored and green beads at the entrance of our
apartment hallway and in our bedroom hamster or gerbil
pettings.Sea monkeys and see sawsBeing young and breaking
minor laws Like jay walkingGetting written up for talking in
class
At Byrd, Jenner, Schiller, Manierre, Oscar Mayer or Sojourner
Truth.
Savoring freeze pops and ice cream cones,On a hot summer
day out on the porchWhile the radio
blared Me & Mrs. Jones.Coming inside from playing and trying
to avoid stepping on the prickly side of your mom's Clear plastic
runners,
But ironically unlike the title Me & Mrs. Jones Our parents love
was in tact and seemingly endless as an Indian summer.Come
on you know what I mean as endless as A Game Of
Thrones,
You dig, my brothers and sisters as timeless as a time capsule
and as memorable as the incomparable Me & Mrs. Jones.
